This One’s for My ATL One’s: Kroger Closing 4 Stores Across the Metro Area

Y’all, this one might hit close to home.

Kroger just announced it’s closing four metro Atlanta stores between July and October 2025, including locations in Alpharetta, Atlanta, Brookhaven, and Decatur.

And while the company says the move is part of a national plan to close 60 stores total, Atlanta definitely felt the blow.

Here’s a breakdown of the stores set to close:

  • 11877 Douglas Road, Alpharetta – closing Aug. 16, 2025

  • 2452 Morosgo Way, Atlanta – closing July 19, 2025

  • 3855 Buford Highway, Brookhaven – closing Oct. 18, 2025

  • 3479 Memorial Drive, Decatur – closing Sept. 13, 2025

Now according to Kroger, every employee impacted will be offered a transfer to another nearby store, so this ain’t a total walk-out. Still, for communities that rely on these spots for groceries, meds, and everyday essentials; this is a big shift.

What’s even wilder? Kroger’s profits actually exceeded expectations. But they still blamed the shutdowns on an “uncertain macroeconomic environment” and a need to “run more efficiently.”

Translation? They makin’ money, but the money ain’t moving like it used to, and ATL caught the short end.

Whether you shop there or not, we all know somebody that does. So now the question becomes: What replaces these stores? And how does this affect access for folks who already got limited grocery options?
