2026 Started WILD: U.S. Military Strikes Venezuela & Captures Maduro

We’re just a few days into 2026 and the world already hit a major geopolitical headline. In a dramatic overnight military operation, the United States struck targets inside Venezuela and successfully captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, then transported them to the United States to face federal charges

According to U.S. officials, elite Army Delta Force units carried out the mission in Caracas, and Maduro and his wife were flown to New York where they’re now being held and will face criminal charges related to drug trafficking and working with gangs designated as terrorist organizations; charges Maduro denies.

President Donald Trump publicly confirmed the operation, saying it was a “brilliant operation” and announcing that the U.S. would temporarily “run Venezuela” during a transition period — including tapping into Venezuela’s vast oil resources.

Back in Venezuela, the Supreme Court named Vice President Delcy Rodríguez as acting president, but she called the U.S. action illegal and a violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty.

This move has already sparked reactions across the globe — from support from some U.S. lawmakers to criticism from other political leaders, and debate over whether the operation was legal under international law.

Some Venezuelans celebrated in the streets, others protested. Major cities saw mixed reactions as people processed the sudden removal of their longtime leader.

Whether you see this as a bold strike against corruption and narco-crime, or a controversial use of military force — one thing is clear: 2026 just started, and the world’s eyes are locked on Venezuela. Stay tuned; this story is far from over.
